Monday 6 a.m. I did not like Mondays in the past. They always filled me with a feeling of uncertainty. What would the week be like? I wondered myself… However, that has changed. I love Mondays now… Why is that?

The reason is simple. Now I attend the Circle of Drawing at Maccsi (Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Caracas Sofía Imber). I go there every Monday at 8:30 a.m. and that alone has been enough for me to change my views about the coming week.

I have become like one of those eager and enthusiastic students who spend Sunday making sure everything is ready for Monday morning school.

This "Circle of Lights" came to us as sent from God. Pedro León Zapata, Régulo Pérez, Carmelo Niño, Pájaro are among its first disciples. It is a Circle of friends -all experienced artists- meant for reflection, the exchange of ideas, and most important of all, drawing, drawing, drawing! We go through the basic and traditional aspects of drawing, and later transform them into non-conventional proposals. The Circle has organized a great deal of art exhibits. Some of these events include the exhibition to honor Arturo Uslar Pietri at Macssi, Bolívar’s iconography exploration at the Museo de Coro, and the Circle’s urban exhibit during the Guitar International Festival at Teresa Carreño Theater.

The morning goes on! Pablo Benavides arrives immersed in a loving "Light". It is a morning full of energy. Ideas hover in a potentially creative atmosphere.

There come Saúl Huerta, Corina Briceño (...) A nod is enough to say hello without diverting the group’s attention.

However, the reunion does not end at the museum. Afterwards, we all go to a little café in Parque Central. We sit and talk, as marroncitos –black capuccino- come and go (...).

It is such a perfect way to start the week. Ideas float in the air and we are all looking forward to going to our studios and set to work.

See you on Monday!
