The capacity of transforming waste materials into Art.

This is a project I had been researching since 1992, when by accident; I noticed that the paintbrushes that I been cleaning with turpentine had dissolved the polystyrene cup I had used for my coffee. This small discovery made me want to continue to investigate the possibility of transforming waste products such as polystyrene into works of art.

I discovered that this solvent was able to transform it in such a way that it could even disintegrate it completely.

But by controlling the amount of solvent used and stopping the disintegration process at the precise moment, I was able to create the desired piece of work.

After a thorough investigation during 1992, I was able to use this technique in the paintings for my “Cosmoesencia exhibition”.

I also discovered that by using different types of paints and polystyrene, such as the one used for the packing on delicate objects, I could also create amazing sculptures of all shapes and sizes.

This project led me to an infinite amount of possibilities using waste materials, that otherwise take years to disintegrate and continue to pollute our planet.
